Lucia collects fluid samples for geochemical measurements such as methane, manganese, hydrogen, and helium. These chemicals are found at elevated levels in hydrothermal vent fluids compared to normal seawater and serve as indicators of biogeochemical processes occurring at hydrothermal vents.
